The Institutional Simulation

You may—or may not—know that Hand Fetish Projects (HFP) is an artist-run gallery. We call ourselves ‘We,’ but let’s be clear: it is just me.

We built this from absolute zero. No capital, no connections—just the kind of talent that actually carries weight. In this industry, artists are often dismissed as dreamers who lack ‘vision,’ simply because we prioritize the intellect of creation over the noise of the market. But HFP has proven otherwise. To run a gallery is to manage a system, and fortunately, the age of AI has finally made the ‘one-person operation’ a viable reality.

What started as a simple ‘shop’ has evolved into a postmodern experiment emerging from the Global Periphery. We have a natural allergy to the narcissism of modern e-commerce, where founders feel the need to be inseparable from their brand. To them, ‘humanizing’ means parading on TikTok or Instagram, trauma-dumping about how hard we struggled to mold clay or mix colors. We disagree. By doing so, they trade their identity for engagement, becoming a perpetual performance rather than an artist.

But here is the trap: even if you refuse to perform, even if you hide and only focus on your talent, it still won’t work. We realized that no matter how hard a lone artist works, the world still sees them as ‘poor’—a fragile soul forever waiting at the gates for an institution to validate them. They don’t want our talent; they want to consume our narrative. And if you have no narrative, you don’t exist. If you have only talent, you are just a tool.

In the end, we are the only ones who truly mind our own pieces. We came to a singular conclusion: To protect our identity, we must simulate an institution.

We set the artist’s ego aside to perform as a complete organization. We built the shell of an institution to see if a structure engineered by a single mind could command the same trust as a legacy giant.

This is the simulation: a one-person takeover proving that in an automated world, the structure we build to protect our art is just as much a masterpiece as the art itself

Born in a Saigon studio apartment between the rituals of art and rescue cats. HFP is an online gallery rooted in the raw, eclectic chaos of a lived-in sanctuary.

A U.S.-registered art entity with a Postmodern soul. We navigate the global market from nowhere.
